Guest Lecture on India’s Commitment towards Energy Transition as A G20 Presidency and Rising Career Avenues in Energy Laws

The Faculty of Law, SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat organized a guest lecture on 9th February 2023 at 11.30 AM on the topic “India’s Commitment towards Energy Transition as G-20 Presidency and Rising Career Avenues in Energy Laws” to celebrate India Energy Week, 2023. The objective of the event was to sensitize our students with recent government initiatives focusing on Energy Transition along with various career opportunities that are available to lawyers and policy experts in energy sector. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Raj Singh Niranjan, Managing Partner Trans India Law Associates, New Delhi. The event commenced with a welcome address of the Chief Guest by Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, Dean Faculty of Law. Professor Vijay also stressed on the relevance of the topic and need of energy transition in India as well at the Global level. The Introduction of the topic was given by Mansi and Sarthak students B.A.LL. B and volunteers of the event describing the aspirations of the country in energy sector.

The event was more like an Interactive session and was moderated by Dr. Yatin Kathuria Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law. The speaker of the event gave deliberations on four key agendas:-

  • Overview of India’s Journey on Energy Transition
  • Government Initiatives and Recent commitments focusing – G20 Summit, UNFCCC
  • Prospects in Electricity Litigation Practice including Renewable Energy
  • Energy Policy Advisory

 

The speaker described Energy Transition as workable solution for addressing issues of energy shortage and Climate Change being practiced in whole world. Further he, elaborated the key developments undergoing in Energy Sector at the national and global level. The requisite of recognising Right to Energy as an indispensable legal Right was debated by our guest by stating energy as one of the basic necessities of life in today’s era.

Further, India s commitment in the field of energy and climate change it was addressed by keynote speaker by deliberating how India’s commitments make it a key participant to tackle the biggest challenge of the world that is climate change. He also highlighted the biggest obstacle for India in its way is funding and how its solutions have been discovered like by initiating the global platform of ISA. Further, he discussed the rising avenues in energy sector for the lawyers by stating that the period after 2020 is the golden period for energy litigation. The event proceeded with an activity where questions based on event’s discussion were asked by Ruhani student of B.A.L.L.B.(H) and those who have given correct answers during the activity were rewarded with a small price. The event concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kulshrestha, HOD, Faculty of Law. The lecture was attended by around 80 students from B.A.L.L.B.(H), B.B.A. L.L.B.(H), L.L.B.(H) programmes and all the faculty members from Faculty of law. The event was organised with the support of Faculty Coordinator Dr. Yatin Kathuria and Student coordinators of the event were Ruhani, Shevon, Sarthak, Amar, Mansi, Vandana and Riya.
