A two day training programme on Staple Food Fortification and Production of Multigrain Flour (Atta) from 24th to 25th August, 2023 was held in NIFTEM-K. The students from IInd year B.Sc. (H) Food Technology form the Department of Food Technology, SRMUH were the attendees of the programme. During their participation, they delved into the nuances of staple crop fortification, exploring its advantages and disadvantages. The students received an in depth understanding of the fortification process, accompanied by practical hands-on training. The inaugural ceremony on day one featured esteemed personalities such as Dr. Harinder Singh Oberoi, Director, NIFTEM-K, Dr. Komal Chauhan, HoD, Department of Food Technology and CEFF, NIFTEM-K and the key speakers include Dr. Onkar Babar, Centre Manager, CEFF, NIFTEM-K and Er. Mayank Nigam, Unit In-charge, CEFF, NIFTEM-K along with Dr. Ankita Kataria, Assistant Professor, MRSPTU, Bhatinda. Dr. Kataria initiated the sessions by introducing fortification concepts and its significance, elucidating related terminologies. Dr. Onkar followed with an explanation of wheat fortification processes, while Mr. Mayank covered oil fortification techniques. The day concluded with practical training sessions on fortifying wheat and oil. The second day commenced with Dr. Ankita shedding light on the importance and procedures for rice fortification. Subsequent sessions were led by Ms. Deepti Gulati, covering an overview and manufacturing aspects of rice kernels. Hands-on training sessions were then conducted for rice fortification and multigrain atta production. The students received comprehensive training and a wealth of information, enhancing their grasp of the subject matter. This exposure provided them with a solid foundation and a rich source of knowledge on staple food fortification.
