NISM-FinLit Programme

The NISM–FinLit Programme was organised by Faculty of Management & Commerce, SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat with National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra as part of the CSR initiative of Vivriti Capital Limited) for promoting financial literacy among the students of SRM University.

The ten- hour certification programme aimed to create awareness among students about personal financial planning, budgeting, savings, investments and employment opportunities in the financial services sector. Students pursuing the final year of graduation and post-graduation courses (1st & 2nd year) participated in the programme through prior registration. 150 students from various programmes such as B. Com, BBA, MBA, and B.Tech (CSE) registered for the programme.

The programme commenced with a formal inaugural session on 19th February 2026.The session began with a Welcome Address, followed by Lighting of the Lamp.

In his inaugural address Prof. V. Samuel Raj highlighted the importance of financial awareness among students and the relevance of the NISM–FinLit initiative in building financially responsible citizens. He also referred to Warren Buffett, one of the most influential investors in the world, popularly known as the “Oracle of Omaha.”

Ms. Jyoti Kapoor conducted interactive and application-oriented sessions over two days (19th-20th February 2026) covering the key areas such as the meaning and importance of financial literacy, sources of income and management of expenses, preparation of monthly budgets with practical examples, importance of savings and financial discipline, introduction to investment avenues such as Public Provident Fund (PPF), Mutual Funds and Sovereign Gold Bonds. She also explained risk awareness in securities markets and the concept of long-term wealth creation. Students were introduced to the concept of net worth and the importance of early investment. Real-life examples and case illustrations made the sessions highly engaging and comprehensible.

Students from various disciplines actively participated in the programme. The sessions witnessed enthusiastic interaction through question-answer rounds, and discussions on real-life financial decisions such as savings habits, budgeting, and investment planning. The participants found the programme highly informative, practical, and relevant to real-life financial decision-making. They appreciated the clarity of explanation and practical orientation of the sessions.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Dean, Faculty of Management & Commerce, Prof. Vaishali Dhingra. All registered participants were informed that they would receive e-certificates upon successful completion of the programme. The two-day NISM–FinLit Certification Programme proved to be a highly impactful academic initiative in enhancing financial awareness and practical knowledge among students of SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat. The programme successfully sensitized students to the importance of personal financial planning and responsible financial behavior at an early stage of their academic and professional lives. Students gained valuable insights into risk awareness in securities markets and the importance of financial discipline in achieving long-term financial stability. The exposure to employment and self-employment opportunities in the financial services sector enabled students to explore potential career pathways in investment advisory services and related fields. The programme fostered analytical thinking and practical decision-making skills related to financial matters. It encouraged students to adopt a systematic approach towards savings and investments rather than impulsive spending.

Overall, the NISM–FinLit Programme achieved its objective of empowering students with essential life skills in financial management, contributing to the development of financially responsible and informed citizens. The initiative also strengthened the academic collaboration between SRM University and NISM in promoting financial literacy as part of national educational goals. The two-day NISM–FinLit Certification Programme successfully achieved its objectives of spreading financial literacy and awareness among students. The Faculty of Management & Commerce, SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat expresses its gratitude to NISM and the Resource person for their valuable support in making the programme a meaningful and impactful academic initiative.
