Powering the Future: A Student Drive for Energy Conservation

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), through its Renewable Energy Club, organized an Energy Conservation Awareness Programme titled “Powering the Future: A Student Drive for Energy Conservation” on 25 August 2026. The programme was conceived as an awareness and student-engagement initiative aimed at developing a strong understanding of the importance of energy conservation and responsible energy consumption among first-year students.

Energy plays a fundamental role in economic development, technological advancement, and improving the quality of life. At the same time, increasing energy demand makes it essential to promote efficient utilization of available resources and encourage sustainable energy practices. Recognizing the importance of developing these values at an early stage of students' academic journey, the programme focused on sensitizing students towards energy conservation, energy efficiency, responsible electricity consumption, renewable energy, and sustainable practices.

The programme also sought to encourage students to recognize their individual role in creating an energy-conscious campus environment. Rather than limiting energy conservation to a technical or institutional responsibility, the initiative emphasized that small and responsible actions by individuals can collectively contribute to significant energy savings.

The programme was therefore designed to combine awareness, personal commitment, and active student participation. Through the Energy Conservation Pledge and the Engineering Explorer Quiz Competition, students were provided with opportunities to understand the importance of energy conservation and engage with concepts related to renewable energy and sustainable technologies.

 

The programme comprised a series of awareness and engagement activities designed to combine knowledge dissemination with active student participation.

3.1 Awareness Session

The programme began with an energy conservation awareness session aimed at sensitizing students to the importance of efficient and responsible energy use.

The session focused on developing an understanding of energy conservation as an everyday responsibility and highlighted the need to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption. Students were encouraged to view energy efficiency not merely as a technical concept but as an essential component of responsible citizenship and sustainable development.

The awareness component also emphasized the role that future engineers can play in addressing energy-related challenges. As engineering students, participants were encouraged to develop an energy-conscious mindset and appreciate the significance of renewable energy and sustainable technologies in shaping the future.

3.2 Energy Conservation Pledge

A key component of the programme was the Energy Conservation Pledge, which provided students and faculty members with an opportunity to make a collective commitment towards responsible energy utilization.

During the pledge, participants committed themselves to:

  1. Use energy responsibly and efficiently.
  2. Avoid unnecessary consumption of electricity.
  3. Promote and support the use of renewable energy.
  4. Adopt energy-saving practices in their daily lives.
  5. Encourage others to become conscious and responsible energy users.
  6. Contribute towards sustainable development and India's vision of Net Zero by 2047.

The pledge helped transform the awareness generated during the programme into a personal and collective commitment. It reinforced the message that energy conservation requires participation at the individual level and that responsible habits, when adopted collectively, can contribute towards a more sustainable future.

The pledge concluded with the motivating message:

“Every unit saved is a step toward a stronger nation!”

This message served as a reminder that energy conservation is closely connected with national development, resource sustainability, and responsible citizenship.

 

3.3 Engineering Explorer Quiz Competition

To make the programme more engaging and interactive, the Engineering Explorer Quiz Competition was conducted as part of the initiative.

The quiz provided students with an opportunity to test and strengthen their understanding of renewable energy, energy conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable technologies. The activity complemented the awareness session by encouraging students to actively engage with the subject rather than simply receive information.

The quiz also promoted curiosity and encouraged students to explore energy-related concepts beyond the immediate classroom environment. By incorporating an interactive competition into the programme, the Renewable Energy Club created an engaging platform through which students could develop their technical awareness while participating in a collaborative academic activity.

The activity further highlighted the relevance of renewable energy and sustainable technologies to the engineering profession and encouraged students to develop an interest in emerging energy solutions.

 

3.4 Prize Distribution

Following the Engineering Explorer Quiz Competition, prizes were distributed to the participants/winners as part of the programme.

The prize distribution served to recognize student participation and achievement and provided additional encouragement for students to actively participate in academic and technical activities organized by the Department and the Renewable Energy Club.

 

The programme concluded with remarks emphasizing the importance of continuing the principles of energy conservation beyond the event itself.

Students were encouraged to incorporate energy-efficient practices into their everyday routines and to recognize that sustainable development requires consistent individual and collective action. The concluding message reinforced the importance of creating an energy-conscious campus culture and encouraging future engineers to approach technological development with environmental and sustainability considerations in mind.
