Introduction

On 11th–12th August 2026, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, organized a Two-Day Hands-on Workshop on "Unity and AR/VR Technologies." The workshop was conducted at Lab No. 2, 5th Floor, Engineering Block, and was attended by students of CSE 3rd Year and BCA 2nd Year. The workshop was designed to provide students with practical exposure to Unity, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and the development of interactive and immersive digital experiences. The workshop was organized with a focus on learning by doing, giving participants an opportunity to observe demonstrations and apply the concepts in a laboratory environment. The sessions emphasized practical understanding, interaction, and exploration of Unity and AR/VR technologies.

Objectives

To provide students with an introduction to Unity and its role in interactive 3D application development.

To familiarize students with the fundamental concepts of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

To provide hands-on exposure to the basic workflow of developing immersive applications using Unity.

To bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementation through demonstrations and guided activities.

To introduce students to real-world applications of AR/VR in gaming, education, simulation, training, and other emerging domains.

To encourage students to explore AR/VR technologies for academic projects, innovation, and future career opportunities.

To promote experiential learning and develop students' confidence in working with emerging technologies.

Key Highlights of the Session

Introduction to Unity and AR/VR Technologies
The workshop commenced with an overview of Unity and the growing ecosystem of immersive technologies. Students were introduced to the significance of game engines and real-time 3D environments in the development of interactive applications.

Hands-on Practical Sessions
The participants actively engaged in laboratory-based activities. Demonstrations were followed by guided practical work, enabling students to understand the development workflow while working directly with the software and project components.

Augmented and Virtual Reality Concepts
The sessions provided students with an understanding of the basic principles of AR and VR and how virtual content can be integrated with digital and physical environments to create immersive experiences.

Interactive Learning and Guidance
The resource person demonstrated concepts and guided students during the practical sessions. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, experiment with the tools, and understand the implementation process through direct interaction.

Student Participation
Students from CSE 3rd Year and BCA 2nd Year participated enthusiastically throughout the workshop. The laboratory environment supported collaborative learning and provided opportunities for students to explore the concepts through practical activities.

Applications and Future Scope
The workshop highlighted the growing relevance of AR/VR in areas such as gaming, education, simulation, training, visualization, healthcare, and other technology- driven applications. Students were encouraged to consider these technologies for future projects and innovation.

Conclusion

The Two-Day Hands-on Workshop on "Unity and AR/VR Technologies" proved to be an enriching and practical learning experience for the participating students. The combination of conceptual orientation, demonstrations, and hands-on activities helped students develop a better understanding of Unity and immersive technologies. The workshop successfully promoted experiential learning and encouraged students to explore AR/VR applications for academic projects, innovation, and future technological pursuits. The active participation and enthusiasm of the students contributed significantly to the successful completion of the workshop.
