Pro Vice-Chancellor

Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Mittal is a well-respected academician, prolific researcher, smart strategist, true mentor, and visionary leader. He has rich diverse experience over 37 years in academics, research, defence and industry. His illustrating career is filled with his significant contributions, mainly to Indian Air Force, Microsoft IDC, leading universities/ institutes and IT industry.

Dr. Mittal completed his Ph. D. in Speech Signal Processing with AI & ML from IIIT Hyderabad, MTech in CSE from IIT Madras, and BTech in ECE from IIT Roorkee. He also holds MBA Degree in Finance & Marketing, and PG Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.

He has held different senior leadership positions at leading universities across India and at corporate, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening academics, research, and organisational growth. As founding Professor of IIIT Chittoor, Sri City, he established research ‘Centre for Smart Cities’ and ‘Design and Innovation Centre’. He was also instrumental in setting-up ‘Fab-Lab’, upgrading Curriculum Labs & Research Labs, and initiating several new paradigms at leading private universities. He has led many Research & Development Projects, sponsored by Govt. of India and Corporate, from the concept stage to initiating proposals, and from getting the grants to successful completion. He has also played a key role in fostering large number of collaborations with academia and industry, across India and internationally.

For his outstanding contributions in operational prudence and indigenisation at IAF, he was commended by the Chief of Air Staff. For his impactful contributions at Windows Core Group at Microsoft R&D India Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad, as CEO and Director of Youngsoft India, and as Directing Staff at Air Force Technical College, Bangalore, he has been bestowed with several awards. He also has the distinction of being a recipient of the prestigious Mahalanobis Award for Best Project at IIT, Madras, and scholarship of National Talent Search Examination.

His research works at IIIT Hyderabad, with a MNC resulted in 02 patents, that are internationally recognised. His research work and results are published in internationally leading research journals with high impact factors, and proceedings of several flagship conferences. Apart from publishing several books, book-chapters and articles, with large number of citations and h-index, he shoulders many research community services regularly, such as TPC member, organiser, reviewer and Key-Note speaker at large number of events. He is also member of several technical societies and advisory boards. His research interests include speech signal processing with AI-ML (mainly emotions and paralinguistics), Smart Cities and emerging technologies spanning from AI, ANN, Cyber Security, Cyber Physical Systems, IoTs, Robotics, AV-EV, Drones, UAVs & RPVs to Humanoids and BMI.

In academic world he has been a well-recognised leader for leading by example, fostering cultural changes, team-building, developing new leaders, curriculum upgradation, hands-on skills development, with projects-based learning and interdisciplinary approach. At SRM University, Sonepat, he has a clear vision of implementing all of these, achieving high standards and setting-up several research Centres of Excellence, towards enriching the university’s journey further to all-round excellence in academics and research.
